VEHICLE MAINTENANCE
The Vehicle Maintenance Division maintains the City of Gillette's fleet. This fleet includes 173 vehicles and 220 pieces of other equipment, representing a total value of over $7.3 million. In 2003 the fleet was driven 1,160,317 miles and operated 98,591 hours, for an average cost of $.86 per mile and $10.13 per hour.
Fleet maintenance records have been fully computerized since April 1987. This includes tracking preventative maintenance scheduling, maintenance scheduling, work order history, bar code inventory, down-time analysis, billing history, and live-vehicle cost.
This division administers the Vehicle & Equipment Depreciation Replacement Fund that enables routine and systematic replacement of the fleet. Vehicle Maintenance staff also develop technical bid specification, which enables the acquisition of appropriate vehicles and equipment.
